Tomorrow is Surgery Day
By
At Last! No more waiting. I feel at peace about having this hyperparathyroidectomy done. (The nurse asked me to say in my own words what I was having done… it’s quite a mouthful) I think the peace comes knowing that this is really what’s wrong with me… and the prognosis for change for the better is very good. There was a news special on about not taking herbs or aspirin of any type before surgery without clearing it with your surgeon as these can lead to complications. I take 2 baby aspirin a day for maintenance like Dr. OZ tells you to do, but even this small amount could compromise you during surgery. I searched online for people talking about their recovery from this operation, and this will be the hardest part for me. I’m not supposed to talk, smile or laugh excessively until I’m healed.. WHAT? not talk? I didn’t know that was going to be part of the deal. I guess I’ll be Text Messaging peeps a bunch! I want to thank all my friends and family online and off for their prayers and offers of help. Know it is very appreciated. I hope to come back and relate some news sometime soon for those of you with similar symptoms out there.
pt 3: Consultation-with-the-Surgeon

I had my surgery on September 1, 2010. So far so good! Went home the same day and so far I’ve had no compliacations. I hope that your surgery has gone well”Menopausal Wife”. My Endo sent me to my surgeon Dr. Tufano At Johns Hopkins. He is a wonderful doctor. He is very busy, but the best usually are. For those of you looking for a Endo or a surgeon please dont be shy…ask questions!!! It is your body…if your not comfortable go somewhere else bottom line….My Endo keeped telling me it was my Bi-polar but I knew it was my Thyroid or something like that. Finally he drew blood and there it was calcium was high!! But even some of the good doctor’s have brain farts….I hope all is well GOD BLESS!!
It’s been what.. two years since my surgery now and I’m doing fabulous.. all the symptoms are gone.. my blood pressure is back to normal.. all is well! I agree with you.. keep bugging your doctor and changing doctors until someone listens to you and runs the tests.. many docs just medicate for the high blood pressure and tell you it’s “stress” I’ve had stress my whole life like most of us have… So glad I found such a fabulous endo! Thanks for sharing marian.
I had surgery on Sept. 20, 2010. Prior surgery day I was an anxiety ridden stress-case. I am not sure how long I had been suffering with elevated calcium levels, but let me tell you I want to thank my GP, Dr. Mostyn for testing my PTH and recognizing the condition. If not for him I would be heading for the looney bin. The surgery went well. Dr. Ihde removed a golf ball size adenoma from my parathyroid. My calcium levels are still adjusting. I still have some tingly sensations in hands and feet. Today, my fingers cramped and my head was rock’n. The hypertension is gone. I am at ease. The little things that overwhelmed me no longer effect me. I am calmer, relaxed and experience a sense of well-being. Having a parathyroidectomy has given me hope and a new sense of relief in an otherwise chaotic state.
Thank you Everybody. There are really people out there who do care, love always.

I am having my Parathyroidectomy in 2 days. One month ago I had my Gall Bladder removed. For some reason my doctor ordered a calcium blood test, that was high. My surgeon then ordered a PTH test and that was 210. High, right? I’ve had a Parathyroid Scan, Ultrasound, and a Cat Scan. They can’t find anything. This surgery will be exploratory. Has anyone ever had the surgery without the exact location. My surgeon said I have to have this surgery. I am just very worried. My level compared with others seems high.
I love your website!
Hi Jeanne,
The docs only “thought” they knew where my tumor was due to seeing what they thought was it on the ultrasound, so I think most parathyroidectomy’s are somewhat exploratory. It did take 2 1/2 hours in surgery as they also had other issues with me during surgery, but all I can say is that afterwards I felt so much better. I don’t hurt everywhere all the time, no impending sense of doom gosh now, almost two years later I can’t even remember my symptoms, but they disappeared. I will be praying for you.
Also.. just fyi, my scar is barely even visible even after about 6-8 months only if I’d mention it could someone see it.. so even though it might look big after surgery, it does go away just be really faithful about not getting in the sun and always using sun BLOCK.. like 50 SPF… I did and it just blends in with the little lines that are naturally in your neck.
