You are absolutely right Amanda. I know there is no "medical" OR "hygienic" reason... it's all about some weird code of fashion that started and suddenly the natural hair that a woman had on her body but not so for men? I wish I were as brave as you.

When I was a teenager I shaved because all my friends did. Then, in my 20s, I shaved because I was a competitive swimmer, and also out of habit. After my daughters were born, I started to ask myself why shave? And I could not come up with a good reason. So I stopped shaving. This was six years ago. There are no (scientifically proven) hygienic reasons why anyone, male or female, should shave their underarms, legs, or pubic area. As women, we shave because we are told we should, because we are taught that our own natural bodies are undesirable and, as a result, we hate ourselves because of them. The first advertisement for shaven underarms appeared in the May 1915 issue of Harper's Bazaar. Since then the Western world has been bombarded with propaganda insisting that we should be hairless. However, shaving is completely unnatural. Our bodies were created (or, evolved, if this is what you believe) to have hair. We do not need to feel obligated to change this.

That said, I do understand the desire to have a "cleanly-shaven" body. And, it is awkward for me (with my naturally hairy body) to swim in public among men and women who do shave. I just feel that this is an ethical issue for myself.

Louie... too funny, I guess it's just human nature that we never like what we have! I remember I used to sneak into my parents bathroom and use my Dad's electric razor when I needed to do a quickie shave job.

Organic Sister - I looked up sugaring at wiki and here's what it said. "Sugaring is a method of epilation that is similar to waxing, and, for that reason, is "often called sugar waxing or Persian waxing."

It has been in use since 1900 BC, "when a hairless and smooth body was considered the standard of youth, beauty and innocence for women in Egypt."

Sugaring can be less painful than waxing, because the substrate sticks to the hair without attaching to the skin, may be applied at room temperature or heated to a lukewarm temperature, preventing burning. Nevertheless, there is some risk of skin irritation, sensitivity, and reaction. One website advises, "Of course it hurts to pull out hair however you do it, but many find sugaring less painful than waxing." "

My daughter is an esthetician and she did my eyebrow wax today with a new type of wax called chocolate wax.. it not only smelled great but it didn't hurt at all... I need to ask her if they've ever used it for leg waxing?

My wife was stealing my razor all the time,so I secretly have been using hers. It's not a very nice thing to do and a blunt razor is certainly no fun. Sometimes she playfully calls me a c#$% so I feel that I have every right to use her womens razor. I like it when she shaves. It's the best!

Sugaring? I think I remember seeing a commercial about that... I will look that one up. My Mom used one of those straight razors, but she also always had gashes all over her legs. You must be more talented than I! :)

Have you heard of sugaring? I've never tried it; it's suppose to be like waxing so I imagine it sucks. lol

I use a non-disposable vintage safety razor (hubby uses a straight edge). Dull, it is not. Takes a bit of getting used to but I like it.
